Hijab Cap
This is made of t-shirt material cut to 18 x 23 inches with the stretch going along the 23 inch edge. You can make it longer than 18 inches if you wish, I find that 18 inches works for me.
Zigzag or serge the 23 inch edges to keep them from fraying.
Fold the 23 inch edge down 6 inches and zigzag to the rest of the material.
Fold in half and sew it together to form a "tube" using a straight stitch and at least a 5/8" seam allowance. Trim off excess and zigzag or serge the raw edges. If it's too loose, re-sew the seam until it fits your head.
Remember to sew this so that all edges are inside the tube!
Essentially, this is an oversized "headband"
Slip it over your head so that it's entirely around your neck. Pull out any hair caught between it and your neck. Pull the cap over your hair so that the folded edge is framing your face.
This is a great base to pin scarves to for fancy hijab styling, for keeping any scarf from sliding around while keeping stray hairs in place. Make one or several, you will love it! Give them as gifts or sell them on EBay. I do!
These are also wonderful for giving yourself or a friend or client a facial or when doing make-up. Like a headband, it keeps the hair out of your face, only better.
Give them to your non-Muslim friends as gifts too! Any woman will love one of these.
From an email group that I'm on, MUSLIMA SEWING, some sisters use the sleeves off T-shirts for this. Now, THAT's "re-purpose-ing". Love that!
